Housing Support

Rough Sleeper Programme:

Through funding received from the Department for Child Protection and Family Support, Centacare Kimberley is able to provide assistance to individuals, couples and families who are sleeping rough, are homeless, or, are at risk of becoming homeless. The aim of the Rough Sleeper program is to work with people to overcome barriers to accessing and maintaining long term stable accommodation. The Homeless Outreach Team works with people to support them to get registered on the Department of Housing’s priority and general waitlist. The Team will also support people to access housing through social housing Organisations such as Foundation Housing and Southern Cross Care (Germanus Kent).

The Homeless Outreach Team is committed to supporting people housed through the program to maintain their tenancy for 12 months. We will work with other community groups to give people access to services such as, health and wellbeing support, tenancy support, drug and alcohol counselling, family and men’s relationship counselling, mental health support, emergency relief, and income support.

To be eligible for service support an individual, couple or family must be homeless, or at risk of homelessness, be prepared to work with the Outreach Team to develop a support plan, and be prepared to work through any barriers to accessing long term housing. To access service support you can get another agency to refer you, or you can ring, or you can come in and talk to one of the team.

Housing Support Mental Health:

Through funding received from the Department for Child Protection and Family Support, Centacare Kimberley is able to offer people living with a mental illness the opportunity to access and maintain long term stable accommodation. Through a partnership with the Department of Housing, Centacare Kimberley is able to register a limited number of people on a dedicated waitlist that gives them priority access to a public or social housing tenancy.

To be eligible to access this program a person must have a diagnosed mental illness and be engaged with a medical practitioner (Doctor) or the Kimberley Mental Health Team in Broome. People who are in the Broome Mental Health Unit at Broome Hospital have priority access to this service, as the aim of the program is to support people with a mental illness who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Clients of this service must be able to meet the eligibility criteria of Department of Housing to access a public housing tenancy.  To access service support is by referral that can be emailed or you can ring and talk to our dedicated mental health support worker.
